The Darkness of Night
By:  Mark N.

As I inhale the darkness of the darkened night, I glance and see the smoke dangling in front of me.

The smoke dances around my head like roaring flames of campfire.  Each movement is synchronized with one another, like ghouls dancing at a joyous festival.

As I sit in the darkness, I hear the echoes of crickets chirping.  It seems they are communicating with one another, each one telling a story of life that was placed in front of them.

I sit here and look at the moon in the sky, and wonder, "why does it look so close?"  I reach my hand out and try to grab it, but like everything in my life it is so close and yet so far away.  The moon has such a calming effect.  I feel like it is watching over me, protecting me from any harm that might come my way.

The cool breeze flowing on the tip of my skin makes me feel helpless, like I am defenseless against an attack.  I can't see the enemy, yet I know he is there, ready to attack again.

As I sit here meditating on my surroundings, I realize that nature is nature in harmony with one another, and wonder "Why can't my life flow together like the serene nature we have been blessed with?"

Again, I take another drag off my cigarette as I inhale the thickness of the dark night.

I walk my own path through life,
Yes I will never be no mans wife.
But what is it that I seek
Just a little humor or compassionate relief.

Just walk with me and be a friend
You are not required to stay to the end.
As the wind blows I may shake and cry,
Yet the good Lord's will does not see it fit for me to die.

In my heart is so much pain
Is it any wonder I'm not sane,
Was I born in vain.
